Math/Roles

During role-play children have been exposed to various math concepts by, writing price tags for items in their shops. Paying (with money they made) for shopping. Weighing fruit and vegetables in the grocery store. Counting the number of heartbeats and recording a patient’s temperature at the Doctors office. Sorting by one or more properties.

Data Handling
Children learned how to make a pictograph by counting family members. They cut and pasted each family member into the right category as a way of recording their results.

As a class the children created a tally chart surveying, how many students have been to the Dentist? They came up with a question, recorded their answers one by one and adding up the number of students that have or have not been to the dentist.

Having Fun with opposites
During circle time, the children had a chance to choose an action from our magic hat, while the others acted out the opposite.
stomp your feet loudly, reach up to the sky, whisper your name, stand up, jump up and down fast, and so on.

During Story time children compared the similarities and differences between families.
For example, some families are quiet. Some families like to be noisy.
Some families eat the same things. Some families eat different things.
There are lots of different ways to be a family. Your family is special no matter what kind it is. (From a book by Todd Parr)
