I would like to wish all the Kinder A/R children and their families a wonderful summer holiday filled with fun, adventures and of course LOTS OF BOOKS.
It is very easy to order books from Amazon.it, books in English and Italian and many languages. A bookstore in Trastevere, Ottimomassimo, where we get most of our Italian books, is a wonderful place to browse, read, and purchase children's books and the staff is very helpful.
See you in September!

The books we read this month were: Are You Ready to play Outside, a book about friendship by Mo Willems, best known for his pigeon books (ex: Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus), Where the Wild Things are, a classic by Maurice Sendak, and The Bear in the Cave, another celebrated children's author. One lesson was used for the children to reflect on their favorite story read during Library lesson and to draw a picture about it.

In Kinder, we last read a wonderful book by Audrey Wood, The Napping House. The book is beautifully illustrated and the text is melodic and soothing. A video of the book can be found here. We also read the Fairy Tale The Three Bears.

As the Kinder children are presently on the subject of creativity and imagination, we chose two very imaginative books, both by classic children’s authors.
The first one was Willy the Dreamer. Anthony Browne’s illustrations are absolutely beautiful and full of details the children loved to point out. The central prop is the banana, creatively and humorously used throughout the book.
The other book we read was In the Night Kitchen, by author and illustrator Maurice Sendak, best known for Where the Wild Things Are. As one of the children accurately said, “he has a silly imagination”.

These past two weeks, we read two books that feature animals.
Have you seen the Crocodile? and The Runaway Bunny. It was the ending of Have you seen the Crocodile? that provided an interesting conversation among the students as to where all the animals went.
The Runaway Bunny is a children’s classic by author Margaret Wise Brown who also wrote Goodnight Moon. It is about a little bunny who wants to run away from home but whose mommy always finds a way to find him.
Happy Holiday! May your winter break be filled with wonderful stories and books.

In keeping with the theme of Light and Dark, we read Kipper’s Monster, a story about two young dogs who go camping and become afraid of the shadows made by their flashlight. The horrible monster turns out to be a little snail.
We also read a delightful childhood classic, Madeline, about a brave little girl who goes to the hospital to get her appendix out and becomes the envy of all her friends because of all the toys and attention she receives.

These past weeks, we read I thought I heard, a story about a child who hears noises in her bedroom that keep her from falling asleep. We also read Big Red Farm, which describes how various farm animals spend their day before going to sleep.

We are still in the process of setting up our permanent collection of books at Via Jenner and establishing an independent EC library. This is a slow process but each week we are getting more books transfered from the Ambrit main library. As a result, the children will have a larger selection of books to chose from.
Last week we read 10 Little Rubber Ducks, a story about a rubber duck who gets adopted by a family of real ducks. This week we read Words are not for Hurting. The children really grasped the concept that words can really hurt feelings and they were able to give examples of kind words versus hurting words.

During these last weeks we continued establishing our Library class routines, reminding the children to be respectful of the books and of each other. Ms Federica Puccinelli, our Library mom, is coming every week to help.
To tie in with the children's study of lines in Art class we read Lines That Wiggle. A video of the book is available here. Continuing with the theme of “Friendships”, we read A Cat and a Dog, a simple story about two house pets who learn to cooperate and become friends.

Library takes place in a large sunny room on the first floor. The Kinder students come every Thursday for a 30-minute period. Each Library class begins with circle time and our library song and is followed by time for the children to choose books to read individually or with friends. At the end of the lesson a story is read to the whole class.
The first few Library classes were spent introducing the children to the Library space, going over class rules and expectations, and learning about the basic care of books. In keeping with the theme of expected behaviors, two of the stories we read were David Goes to School and How do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food? The children quite enjoyed hearing the many ways the characters misbehaved!
