In Kinder we've been practicing games and relay races in preparation for sports day that's coming up! The children loved being part of a team and doing their best!

The PE department joined the art department to have a fun afternoon of relay races but incorporating painting and colour into the games. It was great fun as well as being creative and we learnt about being part of a team and taking turns!

So many activities in PE improve our hand-eye coordination so that has been an ongoing theme over the last few weeks. We worked a lot with balls; throwing, catching and bouncing. Also with small tennis rackets and soft balls and with scoops to catch.
We had a lot of fun with a bowling competition to see which team could knock over the most pins. January 22nd, 2016
PE and music teachers have joined together this week to do some wonderful music and movement.
The power of music is amazing!
The children were excited and animated the minute the music started. We did some free "improvisation" as the children moved to different kinds of music.
Later we did some simple folk dancing routines and ended the lesson with some wonderful relaxing music to slow down!

In the last two weeks we’ve been working on throwing and catching balls.
We started by throwing a big soft ball and then moved down to a tennis ball as the children became more confident.
We had a lot of fun using a plastic baseball bat to hit a ball on a cone!
Next challenge was to hit a ball that was bowled by a friend. That’s not easy!!

Basketball has been our sport over the last two weeks.
We started with basic skills… bouncing the ball just once, then twice , then more on the spot.
We bounced the ball against the wall, then to a partner and then it was time to walk and bounce at the same time!
It’s a whole new feeling with a ball that is much heavier and learning to keep the ball bouncing is a great challenge.
We then shot some hoops… another great challenge!

A great challenge for us this week has been jumping rope!!
The children have really tried hard: we all know it's not an easy skill to learn. Jumping just at the right moment when the rope's going under your feet takes a lot of coordination and control..but slowly does it...
We did individual skipping with our own ropes and also jumping with someone else turning the rope.
We'll be trying again soon!
This week we've be working on basic body control skills with different balancing activities;
Walking down a beam, stepping on the tree blocks in the garden, and lots of other obstacles.
Everyone did a great job.
We practised our running technique at different speeds.
Afterwards we felt our heartbeat and noticed some changes that physical exercise makes on our bodies.
October 12th - PE
In the last week we’ve been working on our soccer skills!
After warming up, we’ve worked individually on “dribbling” the ball and trying to control it - stopping, starting again, and changing direction.
We did some small kicks against the wall trying to control the ball as it came back.
As everyone became confident we worked in pairs - passing to each other and we played a short game.
There was some impressive attacking and great defence. The goalies made some heroic saves and we learnt about being “good sports”.

September 28th -PE
We’ve had a lot of fun in PE getting to know the new classes and finding out about the children’s wonderful skills.
We explained how important it is to follow instructions during our lessons so everyone is safe.
We start each lesson with a short warm up and very important stretching.
The children have enjoyed using different balls; beach balls, sponge balls and tennis balls to practise their coordination. Something you can do at home or at the park.
Last week we started learning about the game of hockey. First to know the hockey stick (plastic!), how to hold it, and how to control a small ball with the stick.
We did lots of fun exercises;hitting the ball against the wall, dribbling the ball with the hockey stick and even playing a game in two teams.
Everyone is enthusiastic about coming to PE and learning lots of new skills.
It’s great to see the children with a smile!
