Language

Language learning happens every day and in all parts of the school.  During garden time the children get involved in building and creating as they exchange and work on ideas together.

As we continue to help the students with their pre-writing skills and mark-making they have been describing what they have found in the garden.  For example naming insects, their colour and size, recording their knowledge through drawings, writing and sounding out the different letters as they share their learning.

They have been given a variety of booklets, folders and recording sheets to help them document their discoveries and findings.

The children have been very interested in both the fiction and non-fiction books connected to this unit. When they have completed the task at hand, they are now confident enough to choose a book by themselves and do some independent and collaborative 'reading' or even ask their teachers to read to them.
