Math – Shapes
Kinder are exploring and using mathematical language to
describe 2D shapes. Shapes can be connected to our everyday real lives and you
can find shapes everywhere you look. Children have taken our Day and Night
bulletin board to include some of their favorite shapes, such as “We can use a
half circle for the moon”, or “ a circle for the sun”. “ We used a square to
make a home” and “a triangle for the roof top”.
Children enjoyed playing simple games in the garden for
example, shape hopscotch and using their own bodies to make a shape. Through
these activities properties have been introduced like how many sides, corners
and vertices does a shape have? Try simple games at home to enhance your child’s learning. What kind of shapes can you find at home?
